Strategic Warfare: Why Your Spiritual Life Needs an Operating System

We often treat our faith like an occasional hobby or a last-resort 911 call. We wait until we are overwhelmed, exhausted, or under attack to reach out to God. But if you run your life the way you run your business, you know that chaos thrives where there is no process.

In my 9-to-5, I’m a “practical doer.” I iron out processes, create workflows, and put systems in place to hit goals. We have to apply those same operational principles to our walk with God.

1. Identify the Enemy’s “Access Points”

In operations, we look for “leaks” in the system. In the spirit, the enemy looks for access points: pride, dissension, discord, depression etc. These aren’t just “bad moods”; they are spiritual intrusions.

We often say, “It’s always something,” or “I’m just hanging in there.” That is the language of someone whose territory is being invaded by the enemy.

  • The Operational Shift: Stop fighting flesh and blood. You aren’t at war with your spouse, your boss, or your bank account. You are at war with the spirit behind the struggle.
  • The Action: Call it what it is. If it’s confusion, bind it. If it’s lack, declare provision. Don’t just “cope”—operate.

2. The Sword of the Spirit is Your Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)

You don’t have to go to seminary to be an advocate for Christ, just like you don’t need a PhD to follow a well-written manual. The Bible is your Sword of the Spirit, but it’s also your SOP.

When the enemy attacks, you don’t have to “feel” your way through a response. You look at the manual:

  • Struggling with fear? Execute the “Power, Love, and Sound Mind” scripture.
  • Overwhelmed? Implement the “Cast Your Cares” workflow.
  • Lost? Ask for “Wisdom” (James 1:5).

“You don’t even have to have the verse memorized to start. The Holy Spirit is the ultimate Project Manager. He will bring to your remembrance exactly what you need when you open your mouth.”

3. Spiritual “Stacking”: Building Consistency

I hear it all the time: “I don’t have time to study.” In the business world, we call this habit stacking. Last year, I read the entire Bible by listening to it while washing dishes, getting dressed, or doing my daughter’s hair. I put the Word into my spirit while my hands were busy with the mundane.

  • The Goal: Once the Word is in your system, it can’t be taken out.
  • The Result: You move from being a “rule follower,” “a sermon listener” to a “chain breaker.” Your environment no longer dictates your peace; your internal operating system does.

4. Community as Your Resource Network

Operations are never a solo mission. You need a team. I recently had a moment where I was hit hard, and it was my community, my best friend and her husband, who stood in the gap and prayed over me when I couldn’t pray for myself.

That is Kingdom Work. If you don’t have people who will go to war for you in the spirit, it’s time to audit your circle. We are called to save the people right in front of us: the coworker, the sibling, the neighbor.

Your 2026 “To-Do” List

We all have vision boards filled with fitness goals and financial targets. But for 2026, I’m challenging you to add one more line item to the top of your list: Defeat the enemy in my face.

  • Audit your language: Stop saying “I’m hanging in there” and start “Declaring and Decreeing.”
  • Map out your prayer time: If you have time to scroll, you have time to “stack” the Word.
  • Execute the Word: Use the tools. You have the authority, the dominion, and the power. Don’t “trick it off” by acting like it’s optional.

The world is messy, but the Word is sure. Put on your mask, pick up your Sword, and let’s get to work.
